The Baby Blues Blankie {a free pattern}

You might have seen it before, but let me tell you the whole story.

I got this
Alize Cotton Gold

Because a friend was going to have a baby, so I could make this.
BBlanketOverview

And I fell in love with the color and stitch detail
BBlanketStitchdetails

The yarn was so soft and squishy, perfect for a tiny baby.
BBlanketFolded

I had to hide it till I gave it to my friend because my little one, loved it too. Oh well, maybe I should make her a bigger one soon.

And guess what, I giving the pattern away for free, so that lots of other little babies (or bigger babies) can enjoy it.

It is small 27 inches by 25 inches, which is perfect for strollers and car seats, the size is easily adjustable, just make sure you have more yardage. You can also use any weight yarn, just use the recommended size hook for it too.

Pattern Details:
Tools needed: 4mm hook
Material needed: 792.0 yards (724.2m) of DK weight yarn
Pattern Difficulty: Easy
Formats Available: PDF
Pattern Style: abbreviated

The pattern also includes a chart for the stitch pattern

  2. Marlie says:

Thanks for this pattern, it is lovely and can be worked up in any yarn!

    • jessyz says:

Yes it can, I actually prefer writing patterns that can use any hook size or yarn and aren’t very gauge dependent because I find that many people will want to use their favorite yarn or stashbust

Beautiful blanet. I love the color pallette. Where did you find this yarn?

    • jessyz says:

At the local yarn store, they don’t have a huge selection but this yarn is so soft and squishy

Where did you find the yarn? I live in the U.S. in Ohio and would love to be able to purchase the yarn. Thanks!

I love the pattern, and was wondering how heavy this was. I purchased some alpaca yarn (very soft) and it is supposed to be 3 times warmer than wool. I wasn’t sure but, would that make this blanket a bit to hot for a baby or should I use a different pattern? Thanks so much!

    • jessyz says:

I have to confess I have never used alpaca ( it is really hot where I live and the yarn stores never stock it) I guess you could still make it but go up a hook size so it is lighter. Try making a swatch first.

I have tried this pattern 3 times and each time it winds up getting crooked after about 5 or 6 rows. I’ve gone back and made sure I am following the pattern exactly, and I am. I don’t change the tension in my stitches, and each count is accurate. Has anyone else had this issue? Anyone have any pointers? I love this blanket and would love to make one that looks right.

Sometimes you either add a stitch at the end or beginning of the row, take a look at the chart it might make more sense

    • cindy says:

Your patterns is crooked because you are not counting the ch3 as a dc. Count it as the 1st st of the row and don’t forget to count it at the end of the row after turning. Hope this helps. A ch3 always counts as the first dc.
