I have been wanting to knit a cardigan for me for ages. The decision was always hard. I knew I wanted a lightweight drapey cardigan, so fingering weight was the way to go. Crazy right? But I love knitting so I shouldn’t be afraid of knitting miles of stockinette right?
I wanted to knit one of these.
Top row: Bellevue Cardigan, Kaleidoscope, Ruby Tuesday
Middle Row: Vitamin D, Cecily Jacket, Harriet
Bottom Row: Vanadium, Hestia, Samargd
The only cardigan that was not fingering weight was the Vitamin D pattern and while I still want to knit it in fingering weight I think it needs to be knit in something special for the drape to work properly.
After a lot of thinking I settled on the Kaleidoscope because it was the simplest one. I also wanted to try out knitting a cardigan from the bottom up. I found a nice beige yarn and cast on. It has simple waist shaping and a wide collar. I will probably make mine a little higher because I don’t like my cardigans falling off my shoulders. I finished the waist decreases and have a couple of inches of plain stockinette to do before the increases. It is very monotonous but I am enjoying the slow pace. I had a couple of naughty knitting episodes before casting this on so I am hoping the relative simplicity of this pattern will cure that.
Beautiful in its simplicity….love it!
I love knitting too but taking on a such a big project is always a bit intimidating. Your post makes me want to knit something, yours is going along very well
