I am having serious knitting trouble

I can’t find the time to knit and when I do there are so many distractions and when there aren’t distractions I am slow and the one thing I did finish was too small.

Exhibit A

It is way too small for my daughter. She tried it on and told me to put it in the bag “that goes to the little babies”. She is right and I hate to admit it, it is too small because I decided to eyeball it instead of get up and get a measuring tape and measure it.

Exhibit B

I cast on days ago and progress has been so slow it is almost non existent.

Exhibit C
There is no picture because I cast on for a pair of socks at least 7 times, 6 toe up and 1 cuff down. With two different yarns no less. I tried provisional cast on but there were too many holes in the short row wraps. As for Judy’s Magic cast on, well lets just say that the magic was gone or perhaps lost on my socks. Even my cuff down cast on was all crooked, and I can cast on with my eyes closed normally or at least with my eyes open but in a very dark room.

Seriously the Exhibit B knitting is so simple even a very beginner knitting could do it, but I just can’t.

It seems that for some reason my hands are angry, perhaps almost as angry as I am.

I think you should take a break… and then I’m sure you’ll be back with a bang! 🙂

Oh, I can so empathize (sp?) with ALL of your comments. Voices;-) still laughing. I babysit my grandson and I make sure I drive by our LYS on the way home. I’m truly controlled by these darn voices. I actually made a written agreement with myself (this was so no one else would know) about NOT BUYING anymore yarn in December. I’ve already spent over $150 and I live on a very very limited income. I just stared at my latest package from Knit Picks and wondered what I had been going to knit. You said in one comment that you knit to calm down (sometimes), I do also, BUT I realized the other day that my shoulders were up around my ears! What’s this? Shouldn’t I be in zen? Nope. I tried knitting a chullo (Peruvian hat) for my sister with some great Noro yarn and probably threw away an entire skein. It started with four stitches and I kept ending up with over 300 stitches. Now a normal person would just quit, but not me. Finally, finally I realized that I was reading this: *K1, M1*; *K2, M1*, *K3, M1* etc etc as==*K1, then M1 all the other stitches;-~ Once I decided not to make the pattern so complicated I knit the hat in one go.

I don’t know how you do it. Knit beautifully (though you deny this), raise children, knit for charity, keep a Blog up to date and live in a ‘floating’ city. I only have 5 dogs and 2 cats and my knitting is so s….l…..o…..w. I read that Ms Zimmerman has explained somewhere (wish I knew where) what causes people to knit slowly. Need to find it.

Just a hint from an everyday person; Take care of yourself first. Knit something simple and beautiful. There is a pattern out there for an afghan called Lizard Ridge Afghan. It is made out of Kureyon (sp?) by Noro. When I have reduced my yarn stash to 1/3 of what I now have I am going to start buying either the Kureyon, one skein by one skein or the silk yarn Noro makes. I think I will calm me.

Have a great holiday season. I can’t wait to see the dress you are (may be)making for your daughter.
