I don’t always knit because I have something specific in mind. Sometimes I just knit because I need to. It helps me slow down, calm down and feel better. Those are the times when I will cast on a dozen times and rip everything because I just hate how the yarn looks in that pattern, or because I made way too many mistakes or just because I am in such a bad mood that my fingers are too and just won’t do what they know what to do so well.
I find solace in my knitting, I find comfort in doing something that can be challenging or very monotonous, depending on what I do, and either way it is still knitting. It is yarn, needles and a knit or a purl stitch. It is something I can do while listening to a podcast or music so I can just get lost, or something I can do in complete silence to really think and ponder about the meaning of life, why laundry is never ending and dream about all the places I would like to visit or move to.
Many knitters claim to be process or product knitters. I always try to find my place between the two but I have finally come to terms that I am neither. I sometimes knit to enjoy the process and I sometimes knit because I want a specific finished object.
That’s how I look at all of my handwork!
I am happy that I am not the only one then
I discovered you a while back but somehow I lost the link. 3 days ago a good friend of mine sent me your link again, she reads the other blog, the one about your thoughts. OMG I was over my heels when I saw the main pg, I reconized the blog right away. This time I added a link to my own blog to make sure I have a way of coming back.
I also knit because it helps me slow down, it’s my stress relieve project. Many times there is not a specific project for someone specific but boy, my family and friends get very happy when they get something knitted. So nice to see their reaction, the look on their faces, the smile.

Oh Mar, thank you so much for your very kind words, I am always very happy when I feel that what I do makes others happy.
I am like you neither a complete process or product knitter. I enjoy both .
Yes there is a project out there for every mood
I agree 100%. Sometimes I just knit for the pure enjoyment of the action of knitting. It’s relaxing and helps me focus. and sometimes I need something made and finished! Great post!
Yes I also find I focus better when my hands are not idle
I am also a combination of process and product knitting. I enjoy the process because it helps me focus on other tasks. It also helps me relax. But, I also enjoy completing the projects, partly because I sell many of them, and partly because I enjoy saying “I made this! From two sticks and some string!”
I love the feeling of accomplishment when I am done with something. When a project is too long I get angsty
